The Alfa Romeo Nuvola concept from The Nuvola was designed by the same man responsible for the Alfa GTV the 1996 Paris Motor Show was a front engined sports coupe with classic proportions and a longitudinally mounted 300 bhp V6. With a 6-speed manual gearbox the Nuvola was capable of reaching 174 mph. The 'Nuvola' name was a tribute to one of the greatest Italian Grand Prix drivers of all time, Tazio Nuvolari. The Alfa Romeo Nuvola concept was similar in size to the Alfa Romeo GTV. Both the GTV and Nuvola were designed by the same man, Walter de Silva, and both cars feature twin recessed headlights positioned either side of the small triangular Alfa grille. Inside the Nuvola concept the classical theme continued with the interior trimmed in bare metal and leather, a wood-rimmed steering wheel with polished spokes suits the design perfectly. Unveiled on the Italdesign Giugiaro stand at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show as a concept car, the Alfa Romeo Brera stirred exciting international acclaim, whether from motoring journalists or the general public. The 2+2 Alfa Romeo Brera is generous in size: 1830mm wide, 4413mm long and 1372mm high, with a 2525mm wheelbase. However the deeply tapered front and rear styling makes it look like a much more compact car. The Brera was a concept car which made make it through to production. The first cars were produced in 2005.

To mark the year of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary, and also Alfa Romeo's centenary, the famous Italian styling house has developed a stunning sports car concept for the manufacturer. The unusually named 2uettottanta concept is based on the Alfa Romeo Spider platform and shares the same layout. Mounted up front is a longitudinally positioned 1750 cc (1.8 litre) four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This engine is designed to call on the heritage of the 1750 Veloce - one of many connections to past Alfa models. The 2uettottanta name itself is supposed to be a reflection of the popular Duetto. Alfa Romeo and Pininfarina have both in conjunction and separately been responsible for producing some of the best looking cars on the planet. So it's no surprise that when they work together on a birthday present for themselves they come up with something pretty special. The original Alfa Romeo Giulia was one of the prettiest European family cars from of the 1960s and 70s. The coupe version was particularly good looking, and especially the 1963-1966 Giulia Sprint GT. With Alfa Romeo's current styling language, and also their naming protocol, currently looking to their past models for inspiration, designer Dragos Prodan decided that it was about time the Giulia coupe was brought back to life. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Concept was designed to match up with the company's current lineup of models - while also providing a healthy dose of classic Italian style. The base for Prodan's Giulia coupe concept would be an all-new platform, and one which makes good use out of a variety of lightweight materials. The front and rear bumpers, as well as the roof, are made from carbon fiber reinforced polymer. While the doors, hood and other body panels are all formed from aluminium. The Alfa Romeo 12C GTS is a sports car concept which is design to capture the classic appearance of historic Alfas, and wrap it up in a modern package. Unlike his previous design the 12C GTS has no obvious model on which it is based. And as such there are no drivetrain details or engineering specifications of any kind. According to Ugur Sahin Design: "The main goal of this design is to reinterpret Alfa Romeo's historical lines, surfaces and styling cues with fresh perspective and state of mind in order to create an appealing design and combining the familiar design language of Alfa Romeo combined with sharper lines and surfaces without losing the organic attractiveness of the car. One of the main features of the design is the way its stance is shaped. As a whole it gives you the impression of "forward-movement" even while standing still. Alfa Romeo doesn't resonate on many Americans' lust radar, largely because the Italian manufacturer has not sold cars here for more than a decade. That's changing next summer, though, when Alfa Romeo reenters the U.S. market with the $250,000 8C Competizione, with more models promised to follow in 2009. There is no mistaking that the 8C is an Alfa, as the diagonal hood creases and triangular grille, two key Alfa design elements, give it away. It's an absolutely striking car to stand beside, and photos do not do it justice. The Alfa's carbon-fiber body is mated to a much shorter version of the Maserati GranTurismo platform. The 8C's wheelbase is some 11.7 inches shorter than the GranTurismo's, and the Alfa is 19.7 inches shorter overall. The Heart of a Ferrari The 8C's engine is derived from a Ferrari block that dates back to the one found in the 360 Modena, which is the same block design used in the Maserati GranTurismo and Maserati Quattroporte.
