Acura unveiled the Advanced Sedan concept at the LA Auto Show in 2006. The concept was created by Acura's Los Angeles-based advanced design team to try and - as Dave Marek, chief designer, Honda R&D Americas, Inc. puts it; "capture the essence of an ultra luxurious sedan but give it a striking, mysterious presence to create a vehicle with a dual personality." The hood of the Acura Advanced Sedan Concept is accented with pronounced character lines that culminate in the aggressive five-sided grille, which contributes to the sedan's bold presence. The commanding grille is constructed of polished aluminum and features a cut crystal Acura emblem. The narrow headlights also double as air intakes and are positioned low on the bumper, further enhancing the sedan's already commanding width. The Acura Stealth was designed by Alex Chou, a 2008 graduate of the transportation design course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. The Stealth was designed to fit under the NSX in Acura's line up based on a shared platform with the Honda S2000. The front-mid engine layout of the Stealth is coupled to Acura's SuperHandling All-wheel Drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system's direct yaw control helps reduce understeer to enhance steering accuracy and add to total cornering power. The Acura Stealth was partially influenced by the spirit of the Gumball 3000 Rally. The Acura ZDX prototype which was revealed at the 2009 New York Motor Show is a preview of an entirely new model from Acura. The ZDX, like the BMW X6, is an SUV sized mild off-roader with a coupe-like profile. The exterior styling of the ZDX was designed by Michelle Christensen who wanted to create a vehicle "... that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be." The styling of the Acura ZDX is characterized by clean minimalist lines which sharply define the various surfaces and panels of the vehicle. Up front is the now familiar shield-like Acura grille flanked by a pair of angular headlights. In order to retain and emphasize the flowing coupe derived profile the rear door handles of the Acura ZDX concept have been integrated into the window surround of the c-pillar. The Acura GSX concept is the work of Jeremy Burgess, a graduate of the Art Center College of Design. The GSX concept was the project he was given during his internship at Acura under the leadership of Jon Ikeda, head of design for Acura. The Acura GSX (Green Sports Concept) was designed for the year 2025 for Richard Branson's new venture, Virgin Galactic. It was created as a proposal for a luxury shuttle bus to provide transport from Los Angeles airport to a future Virgin Galactic spaceport in the Mojave desert, near Honda's test track. The journey would give the future astronauts ample time to download and study all there is to know about the impending outer space experience. The Acura NSX concept, which was first unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, was introduced not just as a some sort of play thing created to while-away the hours in the Acura design studio. It was concieved from the very start with production in mind. The production version of the NSX concept hit the streets in 2015 and is powered by a hybrid drivetrain which utilizes a mid-mounted V6and a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unitwith a Bilateral Torque Adjustable Control System. The NSX will employ the company's latest SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) hybrid system.
